Big Read

The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read Comes to Teton Valley

Valley of the Tetons Library (VTL) has been selected to receive federal funding through the National Endowment for the Arts’ NEA Big Read, bringing a community-wide reading experience to Teton Valley centered on Jack London’s The Call of the Wild.

Through the NEA Big Read, VTL will bring residents together over nine months for conversations, activities, cultural experiences, and celebrations inspired by literature and by the place we call home. The goal is bigger than reading one book. The NEA Big Read is designed to inspire meaningful conversations, celebrate local creativity, elevate different voices and perspectives, and build stronger connections within communities. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

Those goals feel particularly meaningful here in Teton Valley.

Our community is changing and growing, but we continue to share a deep connection to this landscape and its history. Jack London’s stories explore wilderness, wildlife, resilience, human relationships with animals, and the challenges of adapting to change. Those themes offer a natural starting point for conversations about our own history, the Greater Yellowstone region, and what connects us as neighbors.
