New & Noteworthy: New Picture Book Favs

December 26, 2021 By Tetons Library Staff

What is snow? How do you make friends? What is symbiosis? What is a camel’s hump made from? How big is a blue whale’s heart? We gathered together some of our favorite new pictures books to start the new year.

A Thing Called Snow by Yuval Zommer
Best friends Fox and Hare set out into the forest during their first winter to find out what snow is.

Fluffy McWhiskers: Cuteness Explosion by Stephen W. Martin
Fluffy McWhiskers is so cute that anyone who sees her instantly explodes, making it difficult for the little cat to find a single friend.

Just You and Me by Jennifer Ward
A fascinating rhyming exploration of symbiosis: how different animals and plants help each other in nature.

Dinosaurs on Kitty Island by Michael Slack
Three intrepid dinosaurs travel to Kitty Island for a playdate only to discover that their kitten friends have very different ideas of what counts as fun, and they all must find some common ground before their friendship goes extinct.
Inside Animals by Barbara Taylor

Take a look at what goes on in the bodies of your favorite creatures, and discover the answers to fascinating questions like: How big is a blue whale’s heart? Why does a cow have four stomachs? What is a camel’s hump made of?

Dad Bakes by Katie Yamasaki
A lovely, resonant picture book inspired by muralist Katie Yamasaki’s work with formerly incarcerated people. With subtle, uncluttered storytelling amplified by her monumental and heartfelt paintings, she has created a powerful story of love, of family, and of reclaiming a life with joy.
