Valley of the Tetons Library Selects Hacker Architects for Schematic Design Phase of New Community Library

DRIGGS, Idaho — Valley of the Tetons Library (VTL) has taken a major step forward in its vision for a new, community-centered library and gathering space with the selection of Hacker Architects, a nationally recognized design firm based in Portland, Oregon, to lead the Schematic Design phase of the project. Hacker will partner with Wildline Architecture, a Driggs-based firm with deep roots in the Teton Valley community.

Library leaders emphasized that this milestone reflects years of careful planning and early generosity from community donors and volunteers.

“This big step forward was only possible because of the donors and volunteers who believed in the project early on and invested in the vision of what a new library can mean for our valley,” said Emily Bahr, Director of External Affairs for Valley of the Tetons Library. “Their partnership made it possible to complete Chapter 1 of our capital planning journey—from land acquisition and a Needs Assessment and Planning Study to this next essential step into Schematic Design.”

The Library, along with its affiliated Foundation and Friends organization, is preparing to launch a multi-year fundraising campaign to bring the project fully to life. Community-based philanthropy and public-private partnerships will continue to be central to achieving the project’s vision. A Rigorous and Transparent Selection Process

The Architectural Selection Task Force (ASTF) led a competitive and transparent architect selection process in alignment with community values, public expectations, and Idaho statutory requirements.

Beginning in March 2025, the task force issued a public Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in accordance with Idaho Statute 67-2320, generating 40 letters of intent and 19 formal Statements of Qualifications from regional and national firms. Six firms advanced to interviews following rubric-based evaluations.

Hacker Architects emerged as the highest-ranked firm, and VTL entered negotiations consistent with Idaho State Statute Title 67, Chapter 23.

“I was impressed with the strength of the applicant pool and confident we identified the best candidate for the new Driggs Library,” said Bonnie Chambers, ASTF member.

The Schematic Design phase will focus on a 10,000-square-foot community hub, with the ability to scale up to 12,000 square feet depending on community readiness and philanthropic support. The VTL Board of Trustees approved the final contract on December 22, 2025.

“This process reflects our commitment to transparency, due diligence, and responsible stewardship,” said Lauren Vu, VTL Board President and ASTF Chair.

Looking Ahead

The Schematic Design phase will emphasize community-aligned concepts, program functionality, and long-term adaptability. As the project advances, Valley of the Tetons Library will continue engaging residents, donors, partners, and regional stakeholders.

“When people hear that a new chapter for VTL is beginning, there is universal excitement,” said John McIntosh, ASTF member. “The Library is deeply loved in Teton Valley, and the community wants to see it thrive.”
