Valley of the Tetons Library Expands Hours: Driggs Branch and Makerspace Open Fridays
Driggs, ID – Valley of the Tetons Library (VTL) is excited to announce that beginning Friday, April 4, 2025, the Driggs Branch and Makerspace will be open on Fridays from 10 AM to 2 PM. This expansion will run on a trial basis through the end of the school year, responding to the community’s evolving needs following Teton School District 401’s transition to a four-day school week.
As part of a collaborative effort with local organizations, parents, and stakeholders, VTL has been working to identify practical solutions to support families affected by the school schedule change. Community input revealed a strong need for targeted programming for students in grades 4-6, as well as flexible, drop-in options for learners of all ages.
“We’re looking forward to providing these extended hours to our patrons,” said Emily Bahr, VTL Director of External Affairs and Advancement. “We are committed to being responsible stewards of tax funding, and while extending hours increases operational costs, we believe opening on Fridays through the end of the school year is in the best interest of our community.”
While this initiative was inspired by the school district’s schedule shift, all library patrons—not just students and caregivers—are welcome to take advantage of the new Friday hours.
VTL’s expanded hours will make library services available six days a week, with operations comparable to or exceeding those of other local government offices. Throughout the trial period, VTL will collect data to help inform decisions regarding summer and next school year operations.
In addition to these expanded hours, VTL continues to offer resources such as monthly “Take It and Make It” kits and an expanded collection of discovery kits available for checkout. Families and students can also access library services at Teton County Library’s Alta, Wyoming branch on Fridays from 10 AM to 4 PM. VTL cardholders are eligible for a free reciprocal card with Teton County Library, Wyoming.
VTL acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of local nonprofits, organizations, businesses, community leaders, donors, and the new TSD 401 Community School Coordinators for their dedication to finding solutions for families and students.
