Real Hunt, Virtual Treasure
Welcome to the Crypto ‘Round the Town treasure hunt! The full route is 5 to 6 miles, but there’s no need to find them all at once. Those intrepid enough to attempt it might find it takes between 1 and 2 hours on a bike. A smartphone is required to access all parts of the clues, but the treasure hunt is possible without one. There are 10 outdoor locations around Driggs where you can find codes. YOU DON’T NEED TO MOVE ANYTHING OR CLIMB ON ANYTHING TO SEE THE CODES. Each code contains three pieces of information…
1) An encoded phrase that describes the next location.
2) A QR code (click here for more info) that directs to an animation that will give you a clue about the next location. You can also leave a comment in the Finders’ Log on these webpages.
3) A URL which also directs to the animation.
At each location, find the code and either scan it or visit the URL, then leave a message in the log, solve the clue, decode the phrase and find the next location. Your goal is to find them all! The hunt is designed with a start and finish, but if you find a random QR code first, there’s no reason you can’t start anywhere. The clues will still lead you to all ten locations.
Use a cypher wheel to decode the special phrases. Assemble it by putting the large and small pieces together with the brass fastener through the center. Configure your cypher wheel by matching up the correct two letters. For each letter in the message, find its match on the cypher wheel and write it down. Whether to work from inside out or outside might depend, so be careful! Click here to download a template!
