Unlike other tools for teaching kids to code, Code Combat does NOT use a block-style programming language. Instead, it allows you to choose between Python, JavaScript, CoffeeScript and Lua. These languages are very useful for creating both software and websites, and Code Combat is a great first-time introduction to code structure and syntax. Play as a hero character, working your way through fun and challenging puzzles, using code to control what your character does in each level.
