Book Donations Guide

We accept books and other materials in good condition, that we offer for purchase via donation, the proceeds of which support the Library. Both locations have a Dog Eared Den for browsing. In Driggs, it’s located in the back of the library, in Victor, in our newly remodeled basement. If you have not checked it out, you really should come see the amazing, bright, open new space the Friends of the Library have created! Books are available to buy any time the library is open. The Friends of the Library also hold semi annual sales with many more books and materials than we can fit on our shelves!

For incoming donations: a general rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, please don’t give it to us. We are friends, after all.

Book/material donations can be made at the Victor Branch during business hours. Please do not leave books outside. Limits: Victor accepts 3 boxes per week, which must be made in boxes or containers that can be left behind. Driggs accepts small, single box donations.

You can donate DVDs, Audiobooks, and similar materials in good condition. Once donated, items become the property of Valley of the Tetons Library and may be added to our collection, placed on our by-donation bookshelves, sold at our Friends of the Library book sales, traded, donated, or otherwise discarded.

We do not pick up donations. Occasionally, due to the volume of recent donations or lack of storage, we may stop accepting donations. Check here for updates.

We do have a few limitations on what we accept. Items we do not accept are:

  • Books that are moldy, burned, chewed, smoke or water damaged, missing pages, broken bindings, etc.
  • Books written in/highlighted
  • Encyclopedias
  • Professional Journals/Reference Books
  • Law Books, Statutes, Case Law, etc.
  • School Yearbooks
  • Calendar-based books (devotional, quote of the day, etc.)
  • Personal Journals/Homemade books
  • Condensed Books (Reader’s Digest)
  • Time Life Series Books
  • Books with time-sensitive information that changes/goes out of date: computer books, investment guides, travel guides, test prep, textbooks, etc.
  • We do accept these books if they are in good condition, and are timely and topical. General rule: less than five years old= 👍.

Please call and check before bringing magazines. We do not accept newspapers, unless of historical value.

Library staff cannot assign a value to donated items but can provide a receipt acknowledging donation. If considering a donation for a tax benefit, it is up to the donor to determine a fair market value of their donation.

Thank you for thinking of Valley of the Tetons Library!
