Valley of the Tetons Library is in a strong growth period, expanding our impact countywide, and preparing for a new library build. We are celebrating an abundance of successes and planning strategically for the future. As a body, the Board’s responsibilities are to: determine mission and vision, ensure legal compliance and ethical integrity, ensure adequate financial resources and provide financial oversight, select, evaluate, and support the Directors, ensure effective planning, and monitor program performance to ensure impact. As individuals, board members’ responsibilities include: provide expertise and acting as a sounding board for Directors, support the revenue strategy, advocate for the organization, volunteer personally and recruit others.
Being a library trustee is an honor and responsibility. The issues and decisions involved in the administration of the modern public library are varied and complex. Trusteeship is a working relationship with the community, library directors, and fellow trustees. Commitment is the primary qualification for those who serve on the board. Idaho statute sets a library board at five members who serve four year terms, though often new trustees will join midterm. We are always enthusiastic about speaking with residents interested in serving as a trustee. Our board is a supportive group of committed, engaged, fun, thoughtful, and hard working individuals. Contact the Board to learn more.
